Deer-Resistant Bulbs

Bulbs that come back each year and mostly escape deer damage. Compare bloom time, mature height, and hardiness zone.

Bulbs spend most of the year underground, which is why many of them outlast a deer problem that clears the rest of the bed. There are low-upkeep options here, and most need little once they are in the ground. Most are grown for their flowers. The foliage has to die back on its own, so plant them where yellowing leaves will not annoy you.

Deer leave these bulbs alone, and they still flower. These bulbs flower in spring through to late autumn, and the last flowers are still there when the leaves start to turn. Most of the colour is white and purple.

The breadth is the point: the range is wide enough that no two borders need look alike. Allium, Iris and Narcissus have the most entries, and borders and mass planting are the commonest uses.
